Assigning Security Permissions to Accounts

Accounts are assigned security permissions to control the appearance and behavior of COM functions and features for users.

Before you begin

Users and Security should be open to the Select tab.

About this task

A user can be granted or denied permissions in three ways: directly (manually); directly through membership in a group; and indirectly, through membership in a group that is itself a member of another group.

Only alter security permission values if you understand what will be affected.

Procedure

  1. Select the user, user group, or UI group to modify.
  2. Click the Edit button:
    Pencil.
  3. Click Permissions.
    • A check mark indicates the permission is granted to the user or group:
      Green check mark.
    • An X indicates the permission is not granted to the user or group, or that it has been denied:
      Red X.
    • If the permission is inherited, the group it is inherited from is listed in green.
    • If the permission is denied on the user level, the user name is listed in red.
For example, in the following image, Frank Turner has been denied permission to set security permissions at the user account level:
The Set Permissions security permission denied to Frank Turner.

Note that if the red X is visible without any text, the permission is not set (not explicitly denied).
