Adding Canned Messages

Canned messages are standardized routine messages that the dispatcher or driver can send through the mobile computer.

About this task

Depending on the communications system and mobile computer vendor being used, most drivers can send in canned messages from the mobile computer. The mobile computer vendor and Trapeze set up the database in unison to make sure that the number codes that the drivers enter correspond to the same text messages within the Trapeze database. The following procedures apply to both In Canned and Out Canned messages:

Procedure

  1. In the Bin folder, click the MSrv41_2.exe file. Alternatively, click the shortcut on your desktop if you have created one.
  2. In the Mdt Server screen, click ServerEdit In Canned Msg or Edit Out Canned Msg.

The following graphics show the In Canned Msg Editorand Out Canned Msg Editor dialog boxes, respectively.

  3. Click Add.
  4. In the Msg ID field, type a number for the new message. (Duplicate numbers are not allowed.)
  5. In the Msg Txt, type a brief message.
  6. (For In Canned Msg Editor only) In the Msg MDT Txt field, type what you want the driver to see on the mobile computer screen.
  7. Click Save. The new message is added to the list on the lower right section of the dialog box.
  8. Click Exit.

Results

The Edit In Canned Msg feature sets up the text messages that directly correspond to the number codes that the drivers enter in their mobile computers. If messages are changed or renumbered in this dialog box, the MDTs must be updated.
