About Identifying Street Name Aliases

If a street segment is known by multiple names, the Trapeze map database can save alternate names as aliases for the segment.

If Smith Street is another name for 10th Street, for example, Smith Street can be saved as a street alias with the same GIS ID (identification) number as 10th Street.

To indicate that a segment in your map data represents an alias, define a field value as an alias and ensure that the segment record shares the same GIS ID as another segment. MapMaker then loads segments defined as aliases into a separate database table.

Like street names, alias names should be parsed into separate direction prefix, street name, street type, and direction suffix strings.
