About Parameter Sets and Solution Sets
Parameter sets and solution sets are used by PASS-IPA to fulfill trips that have special conditions.
PASS-IPA allows you to do batch analysis under varying conditions, including different itinerary planning parameter sets. This works through a hierarchy of solution sets, solutions, and parameter sets.
A solution set can have numerous individual solutions but PASS-IPA solution sets should contain only one solution. Each solution is associated with an itinerary planner and a parameter set.
This section is intended for PASS system administrators and describes how to set up parameter sets and solutions sets.
Trapeze recommends that you create two parameter sets: one for requested pick-up times, and one for requested drop-off times. These can then be assigned as the default solution sets for requested pick-up times and requested drop-off times, respectively. If you do not use requested drop-off times, you will need only one parameter set.
The set up of solution sets and parameters depends heavily on the itinerary planning system being used.
To better understand the relationship between solution sets and parameter sets, keep the following in mind:
- Parameter sets contains specifications for standard trip criteria, such as maximum walking time and speed.
- Default solution sets (defined in Trip Planning Solutions ancillary data) define the solution sets for trips with requested pick-up times versus trips with requested drop-off times.
- Solution sets link requested pick-up and drop-off trips with specific parameter sets.
- Solution sets can contain multiple solutions, but PASS-IPA solution sets typically consist of one solution.
Steps for Setting Up Solutions
- Create parameter sets.
- Create solutions in ancillary data and link those solutions to the appropriate itinerary planner and parameter sets.
- Identify solutions in the Personal Trip Planner and save them as solution sets.
