Display of Count Data
When clicking Multiple Counts on the Ridership menu, you can choose options on how to display the count data.
| Options | Description |
|---|---|
| Total | Displays the total passenger loads, boardings, and/or alightings for all checks at a given node/stop. When this option is selected, the Time difference and dwell time display the average by number of checks value. |
| Average by incident |
Absolute time difference - An incident is an event that occurs at a stop, such as a boarding or alighting. For example, in three checks at stop FO1S, three people board on the first check, five people board on the second check, but the vehicle does not stop on the third check. On the third check, there is no incident of boarding or alighting at the stop. If this option is the selected, the system calculates the average number of boardings using the following formula:
total boarding’s for
all checks) ÷ (the number of incidents of
boardings)
Using this calculation for the example above: (3 + 5 + 0) ÷ 2 = 4 The average by incident for the stop is 4. The value appears as an absolute value. If the calculation results in a negative value, it appears as a positive value. When this option is selected, the Time difference and dwell time display the average by number of checks value. If your central focus is on stop activity, this may be the best option to choose because it provides a more accurate view of activity at particular stops. |
| Average by number of checks |
Relative time difference - Displays the average number of loads, boardings, alightings as well as the average time difference and dwell time. Using the previous example, if you choose this option, the system calculates the average number of boardings using the following formula:
(total boardings for
all checks)÷(number of checks made)
Therefore: (3 + 5 + 0) ÷ 3 = 2.66 The average boardings by number of checks for this stop is 2.66. This option gives more accurate averages for the trip on the whole and subsequently, for the entire line and direction than the Average by incident/Absolute time difference option. It is the selected option by default. |
| Factored | Displays factored values. |
