Defining Fare Rules

Use the Fare Rules tab to define the rules for the fare structure. Create a generic rule for the majority of routes and add more detailed faring rules for any route that does not follow the generic fare structure.

If your site uses a simple fare structure (flat fare for all services and areas), you need only create one “generic” fare rule.
  1. Open the Fare Rules tab of the FX Fares dialog box.
  2. In the Agency list, select the appropriate agency.

To apply the rule to two agencies who share lines, select Inter-Agency.

  3. In the Line list, choose to which line you want to apply the rule. Alternatively, choose <New Custom Rule>.

    Then, click OK.

  4. In the Cost Typelist, choose one of the following options:
    • FC - Fare Cost: Applies the fare costs with related passenger types, fares, time periods, and service groups that have been defined in the Fare Cost tab.
    • ZC- Zone Count: Counts the number of zones and calculates fare according to the fare structure defined in the Fare Zones tab.
    • ZM - Zone Matrix: Applies zone to zone faring. ZZ - Not used.
  5. In the Cost list, choose an appropriate option.
If you selected Fare Cost in the previous step, choose a fare cost (for example, express). If you selected Zone Count or Zone Matrix, choose a zone group.
  6. (If there is a Charge for Transfers) In the Transfer Cost list, select a fare cost to define the cost charged for transfers.
  7. In the Hint field, type the hint.
  8. Click Add.
  9. Optional: To display the rules that were defined, select <All> in the Agency list.
