Setting Up Zone Faring

The Fare Zones tab is used to assign zones to zone groups and associate fare costs to them. This is used by sites that charge fare for travel across or within zones only.

You must have defined at least one zone group before performing this procedure.

This tool enables the user to create a matrix of the fare costs for travel between specific fare zones, travel within just one zone, and travel across a specified number of zones.

  1. Open the Fare Zones tab of the FX Fares dialog box and choose the required sign-up period for the correct agency. (Select the Display All check box to view all fare zone records.)
  2. In the Fare Zone list, choose the fare zone group.

Click <New> to add a new fare zone group. In the dialog box displayed, type a description and click OK.

When you open the Fare Details tab and view Zone Groups, the new group is added to the grid list.
  3. In the From list, choose the zone from which a trip begins or choose Zone Count.
Choose Zone Count if fares are charged depending on the total number of zones traveled rather than the specific origin and destination zones.
  4. In the To list, do one of the following options depending on your selection in step 3: Choose the destination zone if you chose a specific zone origin.

Enter the total number of zones for which the fare is charged (for example, 3) if you chose Zone Count.

  5. In the Fare Cost list, choose the fare cost to which the fare applies.
Only fare costs that have been defined in the Fare Cost tab are displayed in this list.
  6. Click Add.

The data (passenger types, fares, time periods, service group) related to the selected fare cost is applied to the zone group. Once this is completed, open the Fare Rules tab.
