About How Bad Trip Locator Works

Bad Trip Locator (BTL) switches must be set before running BTL.

To run the Bad Trip Locator, set the Enable switch to ON. The BTL runs in intervals, set the BTL Interval switch to a numerical value. For example, if the interval were set to 30, the job would be triggered every 30 minutes after the previous job has completed.

During the BTL process, the system temporarily unschedules each trip and then reschedules it to the same run and same location on the itinerary to calculate how much the trip “costs.” This process is repeated for every trip until all trips have been evaluated.

Calculation times will vary depending on the distance calculation method (Distance Calc. Method) defined in Context Properties. The “Street Routing” method will take a noticeably longer time to calculate than “Straight” or “Triangulation” (also known as “fast costing”) methods.
Note: For a more in-depth explanation of distance calculation methods, refer to the Distance Calculation Methods section of the PASS System Administrator and User Guide.

If required, trace logging is also available to monitor and troubleshoot the BTL. Use the Trace switch to enable logging. If additional logging details are needed, use the Trace Verbose switch to define how much detail to include in the logs.
