Required Android Device Characteristics

As a minimum, the Android device should have:

Note: Device must be Google Mobile Certified (GMS) and Google Play Protect Certified.
  • Processor type must be ARM
  • Minimum API / OS of 10
  • Large screen (8" or greater)
  • Cellular modem. Choose your favorite network provider such as: Verizon, Sprint, Telus, Bell, Rogers
  • Integrated speakers and microphone
  • GPS
  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth
The optional features that may also be important to have:
  • Camera (Front, Rear or both)
  • Audio Jack
  • Docking Station (for either in-office or in-vehicle)
  • Processor speed and memory are typically not an issue because newer devices have more than enough.
    Note: End users should carefully consider locating these devices for ease of driver use without creating driver vision interference and access to charging the device while in operation.
Additional points to consider:
  • Specialty devices – Trapeze has had issues where manufacturers stop upgrading the OS for their specialty devices. This will cause the end user problems if Trapeze finds it necessary to upgrade the Android API level for our programs.
  • Device volume and brightness - When evaluating a device, locate and operate it on the vehicle it is intended to operate on, and verify the volume and brightness are satisfactory for use.
