Placing External Files in the Launchpad

You can add external files to the Launchpad for quick access.

For example, you could add any of the following files to the Launchpad:
  • Customized reports
  • Union contracts in any format

  • Copy of this guide
  • Shortcut to an email application

  1. Click Tools > Extensions.
  2. Click Add File.
    The File dialog box appears.
  3. In the Menu Text field, type the name of the file you want to add to the Launchpad. If you leave this field blank, the name of the file as it exists in your directory is used.

If you leave the field blank, the name of the file will be as it exists in your directory.

  4. Click the folder icon in the Command field. The Open dialog box appears.
    1. Select the file you want to add to the Launchpad
    2. Click Open. The file path appears in the Command field.
  5. Perform any of the following steps as applicable:
    • In the Arguments field, type specific instructions that give you direct access to the file you chose. For example, you can tell COM to automatically type a password when you access a password-protected file; you then access the file directly.
    • In the Initial Dir field, type a shortcut if it is an executable file, for example, the current directory of a file.
    • To display the file in the minimized view when you click its extension, select the Run Minimized check box.
    • To set an alias, click Use Alias to add the file to its alias folder.

You must have directories set up in the tab in the Extensions dialog box. A file using an alias is easier to update if directories and paths change than ones without an alias.

  6. Click OK.
You are returned to the Extensions dialog box. The file you selected is placed in alphabetical order with the other files in the Extended Commands field.
  7. Drag and drop your file to a subfolder of the Launchpad folder.

If you do not drag the file to a specific subfolder of the Launchpad, when the Extensions dialog box is closed, the new file appears in the Shortcuts bar.

  8. Optional: To remove a subfolder, select it and click Remove.
  9. Click OK.
