This example describes how to set a specific provider cost for deadhead activities
(that is, from drop-off to pick-up where the vehicle is empty in between) greater than 30
minutes.
Before you begin
The Trapeze4 Workstation must be open to Provider Contracts ancillary data.
About this task
The charge for deadheads less than 30 minutes should be zero in this example. For
deadheads in excess of 30 minutes, there are two possibilities. Consider a deadhead of 45
minutes. The rule may be that all of the 45 minutes is costed or that only the 15 minutes in
excess of the 30 minute threshold is costed. This example addresses both situations.
Procedure
-
In the Contract frame, click the contract for which to cost for deadhead activities.
-
In the Validity frame, select a validity in the grid.
-
Click Edit.
The buttons in the Validity frame become
available.
-
Type the Time pay unit for the validity:
3600 (that is, seconds in one hour).
-
Type the Time pay interval for the validity:
60 (that is, seconds in one minute).
In this example, the provider will be paid per minute at an hourly rate.
-
Create a period definition:
-
Click Period definitions.
-
See Defining Time Periods.
Continue this procedure after completing those steps.
-
Create a rate profile of the deadhead:
-
Click Rate Profiles.
-
Define a rate profile with a time rate of $40.00 above the
limit for both convenient periods and inconvenient periods.
-
Create a trip cost of the deadhead:
-
Click Trip cost.
-
Set the following: From activity = D,
To activity = P,
DeadHead = ON. The time limit should
be set to 0 because time cost for the deadhead activity needs
to be applied.
The calculations are turned off if the time limit is left at -1.
- Optional:
To take care of all deadheads in one instance, set the following: From
Activity = ALL, To Activity = ALL,
DeadHead = ON.
This applies the deadhead cost whenever the vehicle is deadheading.
The check boxes are shown in three modes: On (selected),
Off (clear), or Either (check mark is
dimmed).
-
Set the Rateprofile for the trip cost.
-
Set the Time limit for the trip cost:
- To pay for the first 30 minutes, set the time limit to
0.
- To pay for time in excess of 30 minutes, set the time limit to
-1.
For both options, a deadhead under 30 minutes is not costed.
If the deadhead is more than 30 minutes, in the first option, the provider is paid
for 45 minutes or $30.00. In the second option, the provider is paid for 15 minutes
or $10.00.

Be aware that if the period that you are calculating overlaps into another time period,
the time period will be broken into two time periods. The previously described logic is
applied to each one of them. For example, when the pick-up is at 16:00 and the drop-off is at
17:30 and the time period shifts at 17:00. The first time period is one hour (16:00 to 17:00)
and the second time period is 30 minutes (17:00 to 17:30). The calculation is then based on
each of these periods (convenient, inconvenient). If a limit is set on distance, then it
will use the time to calculate how much distance there is before and after the time period
shift. In the previous example, two-thirds of the distance is assumed to be before 17:00 and
the remaining third is assumed to be after 17:00.
