Polygon indexing thresholds allow you to fine-tune system performance.
The Layer Control dialog box must be open.
Typically, the Area% and
Count% settings should be set at the default (70%). However, if a
performance problem occurs, changing settings might improve the speed.

In the Static Map Layers list, click a polygon type.

Under Indexing, type a percentage value in the
Area% field.
This value tells the system not to use indexing if the current zoom window is greater
than this value of the span of the given polygon type.
If the polygons overlap
substantially (for example, fixed route buffers), even smaller areas may end up having
to consider most of the polygons.

Type a percentage value in the Count% field.
This value tells the system not to use indexing if the number of polygons that would
be returned exceeds the specified percentage of the total number of polygons within the
given type.
For example, indexing is beneficial if you have a polygon type that
contains numerous polygons (such as building footprints or census block groups), but
your selection contains just a few of them, as compared to the type with only a few
polygons in it (examples:counties, provider areas).
