About Extracting Trips for Ride Checks
The data collected from ride checks allows the system to determine passenger miles. Many transit sites require this information for reporting purposes.
If your site is required to report ridership data to the FTA, you may choose to extract trips randomly at regular intervals (for example, monthly). Once the random sample of trips has been generated, you can view which trips are to be checked on a particular date, assign a checker, and print survey sheets or download the trip to be checked to a hand-held computer.
A trip or group of trips is selected from a list of potential trips. The person who performs the check can be selected at the same time. For ride checks, the checker usually remains on board a vehicle for multiple trips to record passenger boarding and alighting at each stop or node. The checker also monitors on time performance at specific nodes along the route.
For ride check extractions, you can select trips of a specific line direction and start time or a specific Line Group and Block.
Alternatively, you can have the system generate a list of trips through random sampling.
