About Scheduling
After trips have been set up in the system, they must be scheduled to runs.
- Schedule the booking immediately.
- Save it in the system to be batch scheduled later.
Which one do I choose?
If the booking is urgent and requires immediate attention or if you have already executed a batch schedule and you have bookings left that have failed to be scheduled, it may be best to schedule the booking immediately. This method is called Single Insert Scheduling.
If the booking is requested in advance or you have a large volume of unscheduled bookings to deal with and there is flexibility in the scheduling window, you may decide to save the booking for batch scheduling later.
For subscriptions, follow the procedures under Maintaining Subscriptions to activate the master record to template or live records. After you have done so, you can proceed to schedule the live subscription booking using one of the two methods listed above.
About Shadow Scheduling
Shadow scheduling makes scheduling faster by using schedule copies when determining trip schedules.
Shadow scheduling speeds up single-insert scheduling by allowing multiple users to work with schedule copies (instead of locking up the original schedule) and then save their changes to the original schedule.
Shadow scheduling speeds up batch scheduling by creating multiple schedule copies so that multiple trips can be scheduled simultaneously and then saved to the original schedule. Typically, the number of scheduling requests that can be processed at once is determined by the number of logical processors available on the machine running Schedule Server. Otherwise, it can be defined by the Max Threads switch. Trapeze recommends letting the system determine the number of threads to be used.
Trapeze recommends not enforcing a strict booking order when batch scheduling solutions using shadow scheduling. A strict booking order removes the system's ability to schedule bookings as solutions are provided. Note, however, that results will vary when a strict booking order is not enforced. For example, if 8 solution searches are run simultaneously, results may come back on the 4th and 6th searches first and then searches would then be run for the next trips in line. The solutions for bookings scheduled later are in part determined by the solutions used for bookings scheduled earlier in the process. This means that running the batch twice typically provides slightly different results. (The main sort order batch scheduling is respected.)
