About Blocking
Blocking is the process of linking or hooking a series of trips in a chronological sequence to form blocks.
A block defines the assignment of a revenue (in-service) vehicle for a service workday from its pull-out trip from a garage to one or more revenue trips and to its pull-in trip back to a garage.
After completing the schedule of trips for each of your routes, you are ready to develop your vehicle assignments or blocks.
Before creating a block, familiarize yourself with the policies, union agreement, and practices of your transit site related to blocking such as those on layovers, recovery times, interlining, and deadheads.
In general, blocking involves:
- Determining deadheads.
- Setting blocking parameters.
- Creating blocks.
- Assigning garages and divisions to the blocks.
