Table 1. Basic Map Testing

Action

Description

Connect to the map

Using MapEdit or the Schedule Administrator, change the Trapeze Map Data property settings (for example, Binary data path, Data source name, etc.) to point to the map being tested.

Note: A system administrator typically performs this task.

Check the span of the map

  1. Open the map in the Trapeze4 Workstation.
  2. Click the Full View button to verify that the major road network is visible.
  3. If nothing is visible, it is possible that no major roads are defined. Zoom in on the middle of the map view to see if the map appears.

Check the closest intersection feature

  1. Open the map in the Trapeze4 Workstation.
  2. Click on a few locations on the map.
  3. Verify that the correct intersection name appears in the status bar.

Check connectivity

  1. Open the map in the Trapeze4 Workstation.
  2. Zoom in on a few locations on the map.
  3. Check whether the network appears to be connected. Frequent occurrences of segments whose ends are not connected and/or isolated segments indicate a problem.

Check street names in Street Wizard

  1. In the Trapeze4 Workstation, open the map and click Tools > Street Wizard.
  2. On the Street Wizard dialog, select a street name on the Street tab.
  3. Click the Zoom button to current selection button to display the street on the map. Repeat the step for street names that start with different letters.

Check cross streets in Street Wizard

  1. In the Street Wizard dialog, select a street name.
  2. Click the Zoom to current selection button on the Street tab.
  3. On the Cross tab, verify that the cross streets of the selected street are listed.
  4. Highlight them and verify that they appear on the street that was zoomed in on the map.
  5. While changing the selection, monitor the City/Zip display in the lower-left corner of the tab, and verify that it displays correct values.
  6. Double-click the pane to toggle between City and Zip.

Check address ranges in Street Wizard

  1. In the Street Wizard dialog, select a street name and click the Zoom to current selection button on the Street tab.
  2. On the Range tab, verify that address ranges are listed.

  4. While changing the selection, monitor the City/Zip display in the lower-left corner of the tab, and verify that it displays proper values.
  5. Double-click the pane to toggle between City and Zip.

Check place list in Street Wizard

Note: The Address Matcher must be set up before you can perform this task.
  1. In the Street Wizard dialog, click the Geocoder tab.
  2. Verify that the drop-down list beside the City field is populated. If the list has no contents, it does not necessarily indicate a problem, because not all maps have the corresponding table filled in.

  3. Click the Match address button.
  4. Use different values for City and Zip to test geocoding for other areas.

Check street routing in Distance Wizard

  1. In the Trapeze4 Workstation, click Tools > Distance Wizard.
  2. On the Distances tab in the Distance Wizard dialog, select the Routing option in the Method frame.
