About Collecting Check Data
Check data can be collected using survey sheets, hand-held computers, and APCs.
- Survey sheets: The checker records the data onto a paper record that is later submitted for manual data entry into the system.
- Hand-held computers: The checker records the data onto a hand-held computer. Later, the data is imported into the system.
- APCs: Step treadles or pulse beams count the number of boarding and alighting passengers at each stop while simultaneously recording the time and location. Later, the data can be imported into the system.
Ridership Analysis is designed to accommodate all three methods. This chapter offers step-by-step procedures for manual data entry, importing data from hand-held computers, and importing data from an APC file. It also describes editing check data that has been entered into the system.
