About Demographic Analysis with Demand Forecasting
In Demographic Analysis, the Demand Forecasting feature helps to examine how changes to the system may affect ridership.
In traditional Demographic Analysis, there are two elements of data : the polygon layer and associated demographic data. The polygon layer is a map layer that typically consists of government defined areas. These areas or boundary lines define census taking and postal areas. The associated demographic data is mostly socioeconomic in content. Examples of demographic data include population, gender, age, ethnic origin, vehicle ownership, and commute time to work.
- What is the estimated effect on ridership if fares are increased or decreased by 10%?
- What is the best routing of a particular bus route in order to attract the greatest amount of ridership?
- Which neighborhoods are over/underserviced by transit?
Demand Forecasting introduces an element of data to Demographic Analysis—Demand Forecast Indexes, which are of two types: Base and Elastic.
