About Map Layers and Layer Control
Layer control allow you to define which map layers, such as individual polygons, are visible on the map.
- Network
- This is the primary layer and is composed of linear features such as arterial roads, residential streets, rivers, and railways.
- Points
- This shows single point coordinates on the map.
- Polygon
- This shows the polygon types defined as ancillary data in . They are assigned to individual polygons in .
Selecting the network layer in the Static Map Layers list in the Layer Control dialog box shows network components on the map; clearing the check box hides them.
The Layer Control dialog box also allows you to view or edit the map settings of polygons or the network layer. You can also define view thresholds and customize each of the different types of polygons.

- A black check mark indicates that the polygon type is currently shown on the
map.
The polygon type also appears in the Layer Selector submenu of the Map menu and when right-clicking on the map and then clicking Layer Selector. A check mark appears beside the polygon type
- A gray check mark indicates that the polygon type is not currently shown on the
map.
The polygon type appears on the Layer Selector submenu of the Map menu and when right-clicking on the map and then clicking Layer Selector. Click the polygon types on one of the submenus if you want them to appear on the map.
This option is provided to enable quick switching of these polygon types on and off without having to access the Layer Control dialog box.

No check mark on the check box indicates that the polygon type is not active on the map and will not appear on the Layer Selector submenu.
This option should be used for polygon types that are used only for calculations and not for display.
