Schedule States

A schedule goes through a process beginning with its creation to a point where it is actively being used for scheduling trips and to its final stage when all activity for the schedule is at an end.

You can identify what stage the schedule is at by looking at the state of the schedule in Schedule Administrator and Schedule Editor.

Table 1. Schedule State Descriptions
StateDescription
Unknown
Identifies one of two types of schedules:
  • Schedules that were created preceding the implementation of schedule state functionality.
  • Schedules that have been copied from another schedule using the Schedule Administrator but have never been loaded by Schedule Server.

Schedules with the state Unknown have no restrictions on scheduling activities.

Activating New Identifies a brand new schedule being activated for the first time.

For a schedule in the Activating New phase, no schedule activity (such as batch scheduling and single-insert scheduling) can be performed.

Activating

Allows runs to be set up and configured but bookings cannot be scheduled to it. This state indicates that the schedule is in the process of becoming active.

The Schedule Server automatically changes a schedule state from Activating to Active when a schedule is completely activated. You may also want to change a schedule from Active to Activating manually while setting up runs and then set it back to Active when the runs are ready for scheduling.

Active Allows full scheduling activities for trips.
Active Locked Prevents new bookings from being added to the schedule, but existing bookings can still be scheduled or rescheduled.
Closed Schedules that are used for historical purposes.

A schedule should be Closed only after the activities for the schedule are completed and the history edit process is completed.

When a schedule is closed, it is automatically unloaded. A closed schedule cannot be loaded or modified by the Schedule Server unless the state is changed to something other than closed.
