About Managing Street Speed Changes and Closures
During an incident, affected areas, streets, and routes can be marked as temporarily traveling below the speed limit or as closed.
Incident-affected areas may also affect estimated and actual trip times during an evacuation and should be taken into account when booking trips.
Specifying street speeds or closures on the map helps increase the accuracy of estimated travel times because the system takes these marked streets into account when scheduling and routing evacuation and return trips. Use caution when apply a street speed or closure to an incident-affected area because road closures and modified street speeds can drastically affect trip times, resulting in increased time-related schedule violations. If the system cannot reroute a trip because it is located in an area where all surrounding roads have been closed, a red dot is shown on the map to identify the trip event.
To test and verify the effects of a road closure or street speed change, use the Distance Wizard in PASS. Refer to the PASS System Administrator and User Guide for more information.
