Waits and Travels Options

Waits and travels is a feature associated with the costing of runs.

It allows you to define the travel times of operators who must take another vehicle route to the starting location of their respective runs. If your property does not use this method for the calculation of travel time, leave the Wait column in the Travels grid set to No by default.

Field/Option Description
Number

Number assigned to the wait and travel which is defined according to the requirements of your transit site. It serves as the reference to organize Wait and Travels records.

Sequence Used to number multi-leg travels. For example, if the operator travels using two routes: the first route is defined as sequence 1 and the second as sequence 2. If there is only one route, the sequence field should be set to 1.

If you pick an existing number for the Wait and Travel, the Sequence is automatically set to the next available one for the record.

From Relief point or garage where an operator begins the travel.
To Relief point or garage where an operator ends the travel.
Line Line of the trip which an operator uses to travel to his or her starting location.
Dir (Direction) Direction of the line the operator uses to travel.
From Stop (On) Stop at which operators get on the vehicle to their assigned runs.
To Stop (Off) Stop (or the closest one) at which operators get off to their assigned runs.
Walk Time that operators walk to the relief point or garage where they begin to travel.
Offset Time difference between the To Stop and the actual stop at which an operator gets off. This can be a positive value (stop after node) or a negative value (stop before node).
Service Service to which the wait and travel belongs.
Safety

Amount of time (buffer) allocated to ensure that operators arrive at the relief point prior to the actual arrival of the vehicle that connects to their run. This time is included in the wait time value.

The feature is applied in the following manner:
  • Different travels can have different safety values between legs of a trip, for example, in a two-legged trip.
  • Safety can be specified at the end of a travel.
  • When costing a run, safety is ignored if the travel is on the same bus as the relief. Waits and travels can be forced separately in the Force Waits and Travels dialog.

Wait At End If turned on, the operator waits for a vehicle at the end of a travel. This is also known as pull-out travel.

If not selected, the operator waits at the beginning of the travel.
