Hiding and Showing Layers on the Map

The map view can be complex or simple, depending on the number and type of layers that are visible and the actual characteristics of the map.

Open a screen that shows the map, for example, the Points screen.
Most layers are organized into these types:
  • Polygons, which are enclosed geometric areas such as sections of land, bodies of water, and parks.
  • Networks, which are interconnected systems such as highways, railroad lines, and streets.
  • Points, which are single-point coordinates such as bus stops
Note: Configuring the map to show multiple layers might affect the rate at which the map refreshes and displays information. However, removing too many layers from the map might make it difficult to geocode effectively.
  1. In the Map toolbar, click the Layer Configuration button: Layer Configuration button.
    The Layer Configuration dialog opens.
  2. To include specific layers on the map, select their check boxes, or click the Select All check box twice to select and then clear all check boxes.
To exclude specific layers from on the map, clear their check boxes, or click the Select All check box to select all check boxes.
  3. Optional: To increase the brightness of the layers on top of the map, move the Brightness slider to the right.

Alternatively, move the slider to the left to decrease the brightness.

  4. Optional: To increase the transparency of the layers on the map (allow them to be more visible on top of each other), move the Transparency slider to the right.

Alternatively, move the slider to the left to decrease the transparency.

  5. Click OK.

The map settings that you specify here are retained if you view other records in the same screen, but if you move to a new screen, the map settings are restored to their defaults.
