Using the Penalties Dialog Box

The values and the penalties you use in the Penalties dialog box will depend on your transit site polices and union agreement.

The following procedure on performing Improves on regular days aims to demonstrate the use of the Penalties dialog box. The penalties and values applied are for illustration purposes only.
  1. On the Roster tab, turn off all days for regular rosters.
  2. Turn off all days on relief rosters.
  3. In the Optimize On frame, select the Nearest On Time and Average Platform check boxes. Do not select any of the Group By check boxes.
  4. Click Penalties.
    The Penalties dialog box appears.
  5. Perform the following procedure:
    1. Set an On time weight of 0.1.
    2. In the Improve frame, set Minimum Platform weight to 1 with a target of 40h00.
    3. Set Maximum Platform weight of 0.
    4. Set Maximum On Time Range to 2h00.
    5. Select the Protect On Time Range check box.
    6. Make sure that the Heavy Illegal Penalty check box is clear. Start with this option not selected.
    7. Click OK.
  6. On the Improve Rosters frame, click Improve.
  7. Open the Penalties dialog box again and select the Heavy Illegal Penalty check box.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Keep performing Improves until all or almost all rosters are legal.
    When all rosters are legal, make sure that the Average Platform check box in the Optimize On frame is cleared.
