About Managing Driver Breaks
A break in the service can occur for several reasons: to provide a lunch break for the driver, to refuel the vehicle, to allow a vehicle that is broken down to go out of service, or to have one driver replace another.
If the Schedule Server is enabled to use auto-break logic at your site, you can assign auto-break rules to runs in order to have breaks automatically created according to specified parameters. This is used for planned driver breaks (for example, lunch). For other types of breaks (for example, Driver assist), follow this procedure to manually insert a break when necessary. If the auto-break logic is not used at all or for runs with no assigned auto-break rule, follow this procedure to define all breaks.
Some sites have fixed times and locations at which lunch breaks must occur. If this is the policy at your site and if you match batch schedule live schedules against templates, it may be a good idea to insert lunch breaks in the template schedule (select the template schedule in the list of loaded schedules and follow the instructions below to insert the break). This way, all other events are scheduled around the break. Scheduling breaks into the template schedule preserves a break time but may also restrict scheduling for casual trips. Check the policy at your site.
