Choosing a Cost-Efficient Provider

Use the Low Cost Provider functionality primarily in brokerage situations where a for-profit broker allocates trips to several contracted service providers. In this case, it is in the broker’s best interest to choose the most cost-efficient provider.

Before you begin

Trip Booking must be open.

About this task

If you have the PASS-CT (Coordinated Transportation) module with a defined provider faring structure set up at your site, you can compare how much each provider charges per trip and choose the lowest-cost provider.

To use the Low Cost Provider functionality, provider fare types must be defined before a Provider Faring structure is created. This requirement is applicable only if your providers do not share the same service areas.

Once your Provider Faring structure is defined, you are able to use the Cost button from Trip Booking and select the most cost-efficient provider.

Procedure

  1. Select a client and create a trip.
At minimum, a Date, Client, Req time, Origin, and Destination should be defined.
  2. Click the Detail tab.
  3. Next to the Provider field, click Cost:
The Provider field with N/A selected and a Cost button on the right.
  4. In the Provider Cost dialog box, highlight the appropriate provider and click Select.
If a provider is one of the lower cost providers but is not available to perform the trip, that provider does not appear in the generated list of providers.
