Drawing Polygons
Polygon are contained areas on the map defined by users.
Before you begin
Procedure

In the upper-left corner of the screen, click New.

A Parts pane appears in the lower-left part of the screen. -
On the map's toolbar, click the Navigate button:

Define the information in the fields in the upper pane as needed:
- Name
- The name of the new polygon.
- Abbreviation
- An abbreviation for the polygon that will appear in the Jurisdiction field in the Address Matcher and in run itineraries in the Schedule Editor.
- CFCC
- (Optional) The U.S. Census Bureau’s Census Feature Class Code (CFCC) for the polygon.
Additional fields may exist for different polygon datasets. - Drag the map or zoom in on the map so that the area with which you want to work is in view.

Click the Plot button:

Click the map to plot the first vertex for the polygon.
A marker appears for the vertex.

Continue clicking on the map to plot more vertices until the polygon is complete.
Each time you plot a vertex, it connects to the last one you plotted.

Use the toolbar buttons to zoom in and snap points as needed.
Trapeze recommends using the lowest zoom level.

Use the purple lines to identify the polygon's borders.
To close a polygon, click as close to the first plot point as possible.A polygon must consist of at least three vertices.You can zoom in and out on the map while plotting the polygon. Zooming in shows better street resolution and allows for precise polygon plotting.

To add another part to the polygon, right-click in the last row in the
Parts grid, click New, and then define the
polygon part as needed.
Each polygon part is assigned a Part Number.
- If applicable, select the Island check box to exclude the current polygon part from the existing polygon areas.

Click the Save button:

The polygon appears in the grid in the right-side pane.
