About Bids

Bids allow employees to choose the work and absences they want for a defined period of time.

Table 1. Bid Type Descriptions
Bid Type Description
Work Bid Work that employees make bid requests on to be assigned.
Multi-pass Bid Work bids that require some employees to bid multiple times. These contain bid units that use the ReliefRosters, ReliefDayOff, or ReliefVacation bid categories.

For example, on the first pass operators bid for work, including vacation relief work. On the second pass, any operators who chose vacation relief work bid for the specific work they will be doing (which covers vacations taken by other operators).

Absence Bid Absences that employees make bid requests on to take.

Absence quotas prevent too many employees from taking the same absences. In an absence bid, operators choose the weeks and days when they want to take vacation time, use floater days, or have other planned absences.

When preparing absence bids, accrual balances are considered. Accrual balances specify how much absence time employees have accumulated and can select in a bid. Accrual balances can be imported from human resources systems, and updated in Trapeze OPS.
Note: You can have bids that have a combination of work and absences, but it's more practical to have them as separate bids.

Bidding information is available on pick slips for completed bids and by viewing unbid work from the Unbid Work Inquiry screen.

Sub-bids (bids for smaller sets of work within the original work bid) can be defined and run using the Operational Bidding add-on module. For more information about Operational Bidding and OPS-Web Operational Bidding Requests, contact your Trapeze representative.
