A

absence

Occurs when an employee can't be at work for a given work assignment.

Most absences that are known ahead of time (for example, appointments) are entered into the OPS Employee Profile screen.

See also sudden absence.

accessibility

Accommodation type. Typically used in PASS. For example, wheelchair, bike rack, and ski rack.

Accessibility is applied to vehicle types and then associated with lines, blocks, and trips.

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

Legislation for the Canadian province of Ontario enacted in 2005 requiring public services to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

The goal of this act is to make Ontario fully accessible and inclusive to persons with disabilities (PWD) by 2025.

accessible service

Transit routes using vehicles equipped with an electronic lift or ramp to accommodate riders with limited mobility.

Accessories

In Trapeze4 applications, a calendar and calculator on two separate tabs.

The calendar scrolls by year and month.

Accessories can be closed or remain open during your Trapeze session.

active

Screen in use or the last-clicked object on the screen.

address box

Group of fields in Trapeze4 Workstation screens used for entering and geocoding addresses. For example, common locations, employee addresses, and garage addresses.

The following graphic is an example of a basic address box. (Address box layouts can be changed.)

See also geocode.

alight

When a passenger gets off a vehicle.

all call

Voice call made to all vehicles in the transit agency.

See also group call.

ambulatory

Adapted for walking.

In PASS, this term refers to a space aboard a vehicle suitable for passengers who are able to walk on and off a vehicle without the aid of a wheelchair. Wheelchair passengers can be assigned ambulatory spaces if the wheelchair can be folded and the passenger transferred to an ambulatory space.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

United States federal legislation that, among other things, regulates transit service for individuals with disabilities who live or travel within a 3/4 mile radius from any fixed route service.

ancillary data

Agency-specific data that supports the central operations of Trapeze systems. It must be created before Trapeze applications can be used.

Ancillary data definitions are created by Trapeze personnel or system administrators using specific ancillary data screens. For example, the Mobility Aids ancillary data screen in the Trapeze4 Workstation (used in PASS), or the OPS Skill Types ancillary data screen in the Trapeze6 Client Shell (used in OPS).

annunciator

Device capable of informing bus patrons of the next scheduled stop, both audibly and visually.

Also provides audible announcements of bus route number and name to visually impaired patrons waiting at the bus stop.

arrive

Reach a destination.

In PASS, an arrival time is the time at which a vehicle arrives at an event location. For example, the time when a vehicle pulls up at a pick-up before the client boards the vehicle or when a vehicle arrives at a drop-off but the client hasn't yet disembarked.

See also perform.

articulated bus

Type of bus that has a joint mechanism at its middle that allows the vehicle to bend when making sharp turns.

It's designed for higher passenger capacity.

Asset Configuration Management (ACM)

EAM portal that provides the ability to specify the ideal configuration for an asset, including the components, parts, and attributes, and then use that configuration to validate if associated assets meet the expected configuration.

See also Enterprise Asset Management.

asset tracking

Method for tracing the location of fixed assets (for example, yellow iron, trailers and industrial tools) using barcodes, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, or a device adhered to the asset.

An asset tracking system can record the location and usage of the assets and generate various reports.

association

Used to link characteristics with amenities and points in Bus Stop Manager ancillary data.

Associations link parent types with child types. For example, linking transit centers with ad boxes.

attribute

Additional characteristic or feature for something in the system. For example, the direction a bus stop faces or the fact that an employee has been awarded extra pay.

Typically, attribute types are defined in ancillary data and specific to individual agencies. In other cases, attributes are predefined in the system and apply to all agencies.

automated data collection

Ability to automatically gather various vehicle information (speeding, route deviation) via an in-vehicle wireless device at pre-scheduled intervals and deliver this information to in-office computers.

automated dispatch solutions

Ability to dispatch a vehicle using in-office computer software and automatically update driver schedules on in-vehicle computers.

This removes the need for constant radio calls between dispatchers and drivers.

Automated Passenger Counter (APC)

Smart technology installed on transit vehicles that counts the number of boarding and alighting passengers at each stop while also recording the time and location. For example, Trapeze PLAN APC Gateway.

Passengers are counted using either pulse beams or step treadles at each door. Stop location is typically identified using global positioning systems (GPS), or signpost transmitters in combination with vehicle odometers.

Also called Automatic Passenger Counter.

automated vehicle location (AVL)

Ability to track and locate vehicles in real-time using a device to see vehicles on the system map using a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receiver in the in-vehicle computer.

AVL promotes route adherence and efficient dispatching.

Also called automatic vehicle location.

automatic log downloads

Ability to send vehicle logs directly to dispatchers at regularly scheduled intervals, eliminating user-based data entry.

average speed

Estimated speed defined in Trapeze4 Global system properties and used by the system to calculate speed for travel between one point and another.
