make-up time

Payment to an operator for time not actually worked on a run.

Make-up time is added to work time to comply with the minimum daily or weekly guarantee required by union contract.

Also called pad time or guarantee.

markup dispatcher

Garage personnel in charge of identifying which vehicle is parked in which location.

See also garage dispatcher.

maximum load point

Location along a route where the vehicle passenger load is at its greatest.

Maximum load points typically differ by direction and may also be unique to each of the daily operating periods. Long or complex routes may have multiple maximum load points, one for each segment.

Also called peak load point.

MAXQueue

Middleware integration tool providing real-time and scheduled interfacing opportunities between EAM and numerous vendors.

message

  1. System-generated information provided to users. Sometimes, a response is required. For example, a warning message or a message asking for a confirmation when trying to delete.
  2. System-generated information provided to employees. For example, if a skill defined in OPS is going to expire soon, the system can generate a message for the employee to view in Sign-In Terminal or Employee Self-Service.
  3. Manually created note. Typically sent to operators using PASS or OPS. Sometimes, a mass message may be sent to multiple employees.
  4. See data message.

message queue

PASS-MON feature that lists messages received from mobile units.

Messages can be sorted by priority.

metric

Business calculation defined by an expression built with functions, facts, attributes, or other metrics. For example: sum (accidents) or [Passengers] / [Revenue Hours].

missed pull-out

Bus that didn't make its scheduled pull-out time due to either no operator or equipment problems. Typically used in PASS.

See also pull-out.

missed trip

  1. In PASS, the status of a trip when a provider fails to pick up a client during the scheduled time frame. Typically, the client has missed their trip (either finding their own ride or canceling at the door) because the vehicle was too late.
  2. In Trapeze OPS, when an operator is unable to complete trips. For example, because of a delay.

If using Vontas TransitMaster with OPS, there is a missed trips and cancellations integration that lets the two systems notify each other of trip cancellations.

mobile computing solution

System that permits operators and dispatchers to communicate via text message using an in-vehicle computer.

This frees up radio channels and facilitates the electronic management of vehicle-driven data, including operator payroll information, vehicle inspections, inventory management, and navigation.

Mobile Data Terminal (MDT)

An integrated input/output device located in the mobile unit that allows for real-time automated dispatch and the update of information between mobile vehicles and a centralized computer system.

It can display information such as daily schedules, trip details, and driving directions.

The MDT component aboard the vehicle is called a Mobile Data Computer (MDC).

MobileFocus

Suite of software applications that allows integration of EAM applications with mobile devices.

mobile hardware

Includes all in-vehicle devices (for example, mobile computers and modems) needed to complete fleet-related tasks.

mobility aid

Physical device used by a client to move around. For example, scooter, white cane, or walker. Typically used in PASS.

module

  1. Trapeze feature groupings.

These might be part of a core product (for example, Bidding or Timekeeping in OPS), or they might be add-on modules for those products (for example, Employee Self-Service Employee Information, which requires OPS to work).

  2. See also extension.
