garage deadhead

Time and distance a transit vehicle travels between a garage and the start of its first trip or the end of its last trip. This is non-revenue time.

garage dispatcher

Garage employee responsible for maintenance and operations dispatching work, including maintenance of records for the location and status of each vehicle, and assigning and parking vehicles in locations for run assignments or service maintenance work.

geocode

To record on the system map and into the database an address or location and its associated longitude and latitude coordinates.

This process facilitates the use of many GPS-based features. For example, geofences, geozones, navigation, and address matching.

geofence

Boundary for fleet vehicles based on longitude and latitude coordinates. Dispatchers can be alerted when a vehicle crosses the boundary.

Geographical Information System (GIS)

Computer-based system that maps geographic entities using symbols (for example, icons, lines, and shapes) based on global latitude, longitude, or X-Y coordinates of each entity.

Indicates a spatial point (typically a bus stop).

GIS function

Tools that let users create address-lookup searches, and edit data and maps.

grace period

Amount of time the system must wait before moving a case to the next phase or stage in Service Infractions. Typically, a grace period allows time for a response.

group call

Voice call made to a collection of vehicles, either ad hoc or by some common attribute.
