Using the Apply Feature

In manual runcutting, you can create runs by typing a number beside pieces in blocks that can be put together as runs with the Apply feature.

The Apply feature is best used in manual runcutting when you:

  • Have full blocks that can become runs without being cut at a relief point.
  • Have block pieces that were created to become runs, for example, blocks are about eight hours long.
  • Are creating Grandfather runs.

Grandfather runs are runs created based on unwritten rules or practices of the transit site which have always been observed in the past. An example of an unwritten rule is: All runs before 5:00 in the morning are cut as straights.

  1. In the Uncut Pieces grid, type a number in the Run column beside the block you want to cut as a run.
  2. Click another field in the grid.
The pencil symbol moves beside the row of that field. This enables the Apply button: Apply button
  3. Optional: If you have two pieces that you can put together as a two-piece run, type the same run number in the Run column beside the two pieces.
  4. Click Apply.
The selected block pieces are cut as runs and appear in the Cut Pieces grid.
To avoid having these runs modified or uncut, select the runs you just created and freeze them.
