About Splitting Blocks

If a block isn't in progress, it can be split so that different vehicles can be assigned to different parts of the block.

You might want to split a block if a vehicle breaks down on a run and must be replaced, or when a vehicle is scheduled for maintenance during a block. You can then assign a different vehicle to each part of the block.

Note: To assign a different vehicle to part of a block that's in progress, you must enter a vehicle change out.

Names of blocks that have resulted from splits include a tilde (~) and a number (for example, 1~1, 1~2, and 1~3) in the Vehicle Assignment screen. The numbers indicate the time order of the pieces, with the earliest piece of the block represented by ~1. This number also appears in the Split column for the block record. If the Split column value is 0, the block hasn't been split.

If a run or piece of work requires more than one vehicle after you split a block, all vehicle numbers appear for the work record in the Daily Activity screen.

If you split a block with an assigned vehicle, you can immediately create a maintenance record for the vehicle. If Trapeze OPS is integrated with Trapeze EAM at your transit agency, you can create a service request instead of a maintenance record.

You can split fixed route blocks or extra work blocks. When you split a fixed route block, the To Time of the first piece of the block is the same as the From Time of the second piece of the block. When you split an extra work block, the To Time of the first piece of the block can be earlier than the From Time of the second piece.

The Split Block button and command are available only for fixed route and extra work blocks and will be active if the block isn't in progress.
Attention: You can't split or unsplit Demand Response blocks.
