About Assigning Vehicles

Vehicles can be assigned to blocks automatically or manually.

In the Vehicle Assignment screen, you can assign vehicles to blocks by dragging vehicles, by using a toolbar button, or by using the Find Vehicle command. You can also set default vehicles for blocks and automatically assign vehicles to blocks.

To split a block in progress and assign a vehicle to the second part of the block, you can create a vehicle change out.

For a vehicle to be assigned to a block, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an active vehicle in the fleet.
  • Be available (for example, no overlapping maintenance conflict).
  • Match the block's required vehicle type
  • Have an operator assigned to the work who is qualified for the vehicle.
  • Have the required equipment or attribute. Your agency may have established vehicle requirements and employee characteristics for some blocks. You can't assign vehicles to blocks when the vehicle's characteristics don't match mandatory work requirements.

When a vehicle is assigned to a block, the system checks the following information:

  • Whether another vehicle is assigned to the block.
  • Whether you are assigning a vehicle to a Trapeze PASS block.
  • Whether the vehicle type matches the block’s required vehicle type.

To make the process of assigning vehicles to blocks easier, you can sort the blocks pane by vehicle number. Sorting vehicle numbers in ascending order lists unassigned blocks at the top (no Vehicle Number value). Make sure to check your Context settings to see which time period you are viewing.
