Space Types
Space types indicate the amount of space a client occupies aboard a vehicle.
When scheduling for a specific date, you must consider vehicle types, the maximum number of people that can be scheduled to each vehicle, times and locations of bookings, and the space types of your passengers for that day. For example, clients on wheelchairs take up more space than an ambulatory client aboard the vehicle, which may result in scheduling of fewer passengers, especially for smaller vehicle types.
Trapeze recommends specifying load and unload times for space types, but not for all dialog boxes that allow load and unload times. Load and unload times indicate an estimated number of minutes it takes a client with a specific space type to get on or off the vehicle. The system allows you to set load and unload times in multiple dialog boxes. Use your discretion when setting load and unload times for other screens. The system combines all load and unload times affecting a single booking during the scheduling process. Setting too much load and unload time restricts scheduling solutions and produces an inefficient schedule.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Type | Two-character identification type. |
| Description | Description of the space. For example, manually folded wheelchair. |
| Load time | Amount of time required to load a passenger with this space type. For example, if a passenger in oversized wheelchair requires 4 minutes and 30 seconds to load, type 4:30. |
| Unload time | Amount of time required to unload a passenger with this space type. |
| Load factor | Value to be the basis for calculating the time it takes to load multiple clients
of the same space type. For example, if three ambulatory clients are booking trips for the same time, origin, and destination, the load time is four minutes, the load factor could be set to 0.5. Using the calculation 0.5 × 4, the first client loads in four minutes while the second and third client load at two minutes each. |
| Code | (For PASS-MON) A number that represents the space type. |
| Generic Seats | Number of seats that the space type may occupy. For example, a wheelchair may fill two seats while an ambulatory passenger may fill one seat. |
| Affects Capacity | Whether the space type affects a vehicle's capacity. If this check box is selected, then click the ellipsis button (…), and then specify space types that affect capacity as equivalents to the current space type in the Space On Board dialog box. Only space types that affect capacity are available. When scheduling a trip with a space type that does not affect capacity, the Schedule Server uses the cumulative seating requirements of all associated space types in the Space On Board dialog box. |
| MOT excl | Mode of transportation types that are excluded from using this space type. For example, taxis may not be able to accept a scooter space type. |
| Priority | A number between 0 and 100. Only whole numbers (integers) can be used.
Priority can be used to determine batch sort order using SpaceTypePriority in the Parameters Solutions dialog box. For example, if wheelchairs and scooters are given a Priority of 1 and ambulatory passengers are given a Priority of 2, passengers with wheelchairs and scooters would be scheduled before ambulatory passengers. |
| Accessibility | Selecting an accessibility type from the drop-down associates it with a space
type. This allows you to restrict clients to only bus stops that are accessible for
their space type when creating a Multimodal Schedule solution. Note: Accessibility
types (under ) must be defined first, in order for them to appear in the drop-down.
