OPS Skill Types

OPS Skill Types ancillary data defines skill types that can be associated with different skill requirements.

For example, a Driver's License skill type may be created and then required for an Operator employee type and for a Fixed-AM Tripper work type.

Skills are assigned to employees using the Employee Profile - Skills screen and skill requirements are assigned to work assignments.

Field Description
Application List Parts of the system where this skill is relevant.
Skill requirements are only checked on screens associated with selected applications:
  • Activate Day
  • Assignment Assistant
  • Bidding
  • Daily Activity
  • Work Planner
Column Name Field used for the skill type expiration date.

Values come from an import.

Data Card Flag must be selected to use this field.

Contains Skill List Specifies other skills that are automatically possessed by employees that have this specific skill.
Data Card Flag If selected, you must select the Expiration Flag and a Column Name . The expiration date is read from the employee card.

If not selected, the Column Name field is blank.

Description Description of the skill.
Dormancy Message Flag If selected, dormancy warning messages are generated when the current date exceeds the dormant warning threshold.
Dormancy Threshold Number of days of inactivity before a work-related or vehicle-related dormancy takes effect.
Dormancy Type
A skill becomes dormant under certain conditions. The following are types of dormancy:
  • Not applicable. Skill can't go dormant.
  • Work Related. If no work has been done for the specified work type for longer than the dormancy threshold, the skill goes dormant.
  • Vehicle Related. If no vehicle of the specified vehicle type has been used for longer than the dormancy threshold, the skill goes dormant.
  • Manual. User can set dormancy.
Dormancy Warning Threshold If the Dormancy Message Flag is selected, this is the number of days before the dormancy threshold date is reached to give dormancy warning messages.

The warning message is generated during the Activate Day process and recorded in the Skills Notification Log standard report. The warning message can also be presented as an Employee Self-Service or SIT employee message.

Driver License Flag If selected, this skill is linked to the driver license information in the Employee Profile card.
Expiration Flag If selected, this skill has an expiry date and therefore requires a To Date when creating the skill record in the Employee Profile screen.
Expiration Threshold If the Threshold Message Flag is selected, the number of days before the expiry date to give expiration warning messages.

The warning message can also be presented as an Employee Self-Service or SIT employee message.

Skill Abbreviation Abbreviated description of the skill. For example, First Aid/CPR.
Skill Type Id Unique numeric of the skill type identifier.
Threshold Message Flag If selected, warning messages for employees are issued.
Training Threshold Days The number of days required for an employee to get this skill.

If an employee doesn't have this skill and the assignment occurs sooner then the number specified by the Training Threshold days, that employee isn't eligible to bid on the assignment.

Vehicle Type Group Vehicle Types ancillary group used if the dormancy type is Vehicle Related.
Work Status Group Working Status ancillary group (work type) used if the dormancy type is Work Related.
